Australian army joins forces with steyr marine engines! Commando water based operations will soon be boasting a versatile new tool to boost their defence capability, with the introduction of completely new specialist watercraft. The Australian Army is currently taking delivery of 18 ‘Commando Operational Watercraft’ as part of an upgrade for this defence units capability. Western Boat Builders based in Western Australia manufactured these vessels to be powered by the STEYR 266 high performance marine diesel coupled with Hamilton-Jet propulsion units. McIntyre Equipment Pty Ltd, based in Brisbane, are the exclusive importers and suppliers of STEYR high performance marine diesel engines.The new ‘Commando Operational Watercraft’ are a medium lift craft, able to be parachuted, carry up to ten personnel and offer an operational range up to 200 nautical miles in seas up to ‘sea state five’. This offers a totally new and radically enhanced capability for these Commando forces who previously were limited to ‘Zodiacs’ (Rigid Inflatable Boats) A feature of these new watercraft is the use of the high performance STEYR inboard marine diesel engine that offers the best power to weight capability in its class in addition to sensational performance coupled with low noise emissions. A comprehensive range of STEYR marine diesel engines will be on display at this years Brisbane Boat Show, as well as details of the Army Commando watercraft project.
